The Gemological Institute of America has a universal grading system to ensure the quality of your diamond. They are non profit and unbiased, so it is in your best interested to purchased a GIA certified diamond.

Without GIA certification, you may be purchasing a diamond which has a lesser quality and value than what you were told. Besides, if the jeweler claims a high quality for a diamond that has not been certified, their intentions may be questionable. Therefore, it is imperative that the diamond you select is certified before you commit.

When you purchase a diamond that is GIA certified, you will receive a report that is essentially your voucher for your diamond’s authenticity. The report will include the grading and specifications regarding your diamond’s measurements, style, carat weight, color, clarity, and cut. If the diamond has any inclusions, they will be illustrated here.

There are other organizations that offer certification similar to GIA, however the Gemological Institute of America is mostly widely used and accepted. With a GIA certification, you will have an unbiased accurate assessment of your diamond.
